Spooker is nineteen now, and was diagnosed with CRF a couple of years ago. She's given us a scare a couple times so far this year, but each time we think that it's her time to pass over into the next life, she bounces back. After spending a few years sleeping on her own pillow on top of our bed, she now has taken to hiding under the bed. She came out last night and was shaky and walked hesitatingly. Yet she still goes to drink and use the litter box. This morning she didn't want treats, and she stayed under the bed. I left some treats under there for her and told her I love her. And that it is okay if it's her time, I understand and will always love her. She's bounced back so many times, I know she has used up more than nine lives, I swear it's like she has ninety-nine lives.
Then, this afternoon, she was on the bed, demanding Temptations. She ate a few, then went back under the bed. I just want to hold her and whisper in her ear, but she's never been a cat who likes to be held, and wants little physical contact now except for ear scratches when she wants them. I selfishly want her to hold on just a little bit longer, but I have to face the reality that it won't be much longer now. I just pray that she goes peacefully in her sleep when she uses up all of her ninety-nine lives.

Purrs to Spooker, and purrs to you. I know you will do the right thing for her when it is the right time. But it is such a sad and awful time - worse for you humans than it is for us cats. :-(
ReplyDeleteSending warm light and purrs to Miss Spooker and you, Mr. Mo.
ReplyDeleteWe're purring for Spooker and you. We know it's terribly difficult and sad. Like Sparkle said, worse for peeps than cats, since cats don't think and think about things. Lots of love to you both.
ReplyDeleteWe're sending our very best purrs to you both.
ReplyDeleteOh it is so hard when they get older and sick. Thinking about you Mo and sending tons and tons of purrs to you Spooker and hugs to Mo. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh this is so hard...we know. We're purring for you and Spooker and hope there are still good days ahead.
ReplyDeletesending purrs... I know exactly how you feel... I felt the same way about alex. I always expected him to bounce back and have several more lives left - so much that I missed the warning signs that the end was coming. Enjoy every moment together...
ReplyDeletePoor Spooker. What you're feeling is what she's feeling, too. She knows she is loved beyond measure, but she also knows her time is getting near. So sorry to have you going through this, Morgen. We are teary-eyed for both of you.
ReplyDeleteLove~Mom Julie, Tinker, Mittens, Anastasia and Chopin
Oh, this post is breaking our heart. Spooker will let you know when it's time. Tell her she doesn't look a day more than 12. Purrs.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard when they become so ill that they are sort of hiding, and only coming out on occasion. That sounds like Jenny toward the end. But she was 19, and still going up and down the stairs many times a day to get food, and to go out to the catio. Many hugs to you and Spooker.

Oh dear, I do know what you are going thru. I hope she does fall asleep and crosses over peacefully when it is time. I get so emotional when I think one of my cats is ready to go and then feel foolish when they bounce back. Sending lots of healing Reiki light to you and Spooker.

Spooker loves you Morgen. That's why she is still here. What a special life she has with you and Eyad. She will take with her the knowledge of human compassion .
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard when our kitties get older, isn't it? We went through something similar with our beloved angel Sammy. Please know we are sending purrs and prayers and love for you all, especially you and Spooker.
ReplyDeleteOh, we know how you feel. We tell them it's okay to go but we really hope it isn't yet their time.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet lady cat.
