Attacks Continue

I feel bad for Pete, being caught up in the middle of Little Isis's continuing attacks on Daphne.  For he gets to spend "Time Out" in the bathroom overnight with Isis, to keep her company.
Fortunately, Pete doesn't seem upset over this at all.
I guess it's really Daphne that I should feel the worst for - but she's three times the size of Little Isis - and she just won't stand up for herself!  She turns into a quivering hiding scairdy cat whenever Little Isis is on the loose, and I am at a loss as how to return things to pre-Isis-ladygardenectomy status in our home.
Any suggestions?

  1. I've no suggestions for you but definitely wanted to wish you luck! Sounds like Little Isis' ladygardenectomy has turned into a vicious little bundle of fur at times.

Daphne is probably totally dismayed as to what's going on as it's something she's never had to deal with.

  3. Just a thought, but sometimes if there's a bit of tissue left behind during spaying it can cause the behaviour you are describing in Isis. It's not common, but it does happen. The parts the vet is taking out are so very tiny and just one little bit of ovary can cause a female cat to come into season and send her behaviour really screwy. Not just saucy-cat-in-season screwy, but aggressive screwy too. I'd definately have a chat with the vet about it. It could also be a post operative pain issue or other pain issue causing her aggression. Spaying is a big operation to have, we can often forget this. The other possibility is that there was a big scrap amongst the cats whilst you weren't there or maybe something happened that has traumatised Isis whilst at the vet.
I'd set up some Feliway diffusers and make sure Daphne has some safe places to be too. Do ask the vet though. Best of luck.

  5. I don't have the first idea, but I wish you luck. Dobby and Merlin have gotten along famously once they figured each other out, I've never had kitties that fought.

  6. I haven't a clue Mo. I've always considered you the expert on kitties. I hope some resolutions comes quickly for both their sakes. Daphene and Isis. Have a great day and weekend. Big hug. :)

  8. I have heard Feliway can help, but I have no experience with it. I have also heard of Rescue Remedy, which is some herbal stuff that you can put in the water that is supposed to be calming, but I have never used it, either.

Is Isis actually aggressive, or is she just playing? Harley is always jumping all over me and chasing me around, but in a playful way.

We've tried Feliway for Grr's problems and it hasn't worked one bit. Grr is an ornery, aggressive cat. She doesn't seem to have a big problem with male cats - ignores Cocoa, sniffs Max politely, plays chase with Rascal - but she seems to dislike all female cats that aren't Midnight. She hated Cairo and wanted to kill Lucy. She still stalks Riley, but not in the same way that she plays chase with Rascal. Grr still wants to attack Riley, and Riley cowers in a corner and growls. I wish Riley would stand up for herself! The only thing I can think is that all the female cats Grr has met have Alpha Female tendencies, except Midnight. Midnight is very laid back and likes everyone. Little Riley is a tiny runt, but does want to rule. She even tries to bully Max, who's every bit as big as Grr. (Max is now afraid of Riley.) Anyway, I'm really not sure what my point is, except that I've noticed personality conflicts - just like with people. The Grr/Riley conflict wasn't there when Riley was a baby, but once she started growing up and realizing her desire to be Queen of the World, Grr felt she needed to put her in her place. Now Riley's place is usually cornered behind the toilet, behind the dryer, or behind the laundry basket.

  10. May be hormones, or lack there of. She's having hot flashes and is in a crappy mood. IMHO

  11. Our little Zoey is like this with Wally...she will stalk and attack him if I let her...therefore, we keep Zoey separated from Wally...I have consulted with an animal behaviorist and am following their program for integrating Zoey with Wally. All I can say is that it is a SLOW process.

I also have used Feliway and Rescue Remedy...but to be honest, I don't really think either has helped much even though I know of people who have used them with good results.

Good luck...I think it just takes time....

  13. I hope things start getting balanced out. I know that Daphne's fear is probably just making things worse with Isis. I wonder if there is a place you can isolate them and then try re-introducing them after a few days--with Daphne being the "head honcho" cat in the house?

  14. I do not have any suggestions. I was an onlt cat for years before Georgia & Tillie came. I am 15 and I get to have my own room :) The girls are not to bad,but they like to chase me and I don't like it ,heehee
I hope little Isis will settle down sometime soon.

  15. The poor girls. Sounds like this is something you should discuss with your vet.

  16. Bless your heart. Sounds like one too many poodins. We would recommend checking with the vet also, but they will likely tell you that Isis is one too many and needs her own domain. We have 2 Feliway electric dispensers in the house. We think they do help here. I still interrupt fights between Dorf and Obi/Reno and now between G.T. and Obi/Reno. G.T started getting more aggressive once Dorf became more passive after his teeth extractions. If I could, I would have a 5000 sq. ft. house so that all the poodins could have their own area! But then I would find messes in more areas to clean.

Good luck. We know you're going to need it.

  17. I wish I knew what to do NTM. It could be physical as WW's Mum mentioned, or it's one of those cat social structure things. I have the same issues here. I can't understand why Cody won't stand up for himself, yet Cricket will beat the snot out of Toeshee if I let her. Poor Daffers! :(
    Cody sends his sympathies!
