Formerly Feral Jazper Facts

Some facts I know to hint that Jazper had a rough life before he came to Michigan:
  • He has a notch out of his right ear -- is this from a fight, or was he part of a feral colony when he was neutered?
  • The tip of his tail is permanently bent at a 45° angle -- was it caught in a door?
  • The nictitating membrane in his right eye is ragged, like it has been torn. He gets extra eye goobers in this eye.
  • When giving him a nice rub-down the other day, while we were both almost napping, I ran my hands down his back legs. His right hind leg, from knee to ankle, has been broken and not healed straight; the bone is now at a slight crooked angle, and there are bumps at the break. He walks fine, with no limping, and he loves to jump -- so this is an old injury, but at some point, his leg was broken.
So, my formerly feral Jaz-man had an interesting life, to say the least, before he was rescued by Danielle and got to become a shop kitty. Now his biggest worry is what flavor of stinky goodness to choose in the morning, and where to hide from over-zealous toddlers. Hopefully, I can make the rest of his life so happy that he can forget the past. But I still wish he could talk, because I bet he'd have some stories to share...

  9. Wow ... Jazper has had a life similar to that of old blues singers. Perhaps his difficult beginnings have helped him to endear himself? Mom says that's why I'm such a love to have around.

  16. Wow, he HAS had quite a life.
I remember feeling the bump in his tail when I petted him at the store, but I didn't notice the eye-thing or the leg-bone thing. I'll have to look closer next time!
    Poor guy.
Hopefully he doesn't think about his past very often, and only remembers the nice things that have happened since he got adopted by you.
